George Barnsleys Sheffield

The company was founded in 1836 at Cornish Place by the river Don and specialised in forge filing and cutting tools for leather workers and shoe makers. In 1948 the company became listed as George Barnsley & Son Ltd.

George Barnsley himself had a long army career, joining up in 1896 and serving in the Boer, and two world wars. He died at the grand old age of 83.

When George Barnsleys was first explored after lying dormant for so long! Inside was a frozen time capsule. That must have been something to behold.

Sadly, the passage of many have now left their mark on this quite remarkable place. It still remains one of the best places I have explored to date.
